You know what I realized last night?

Her saying she is adopted means I exist.

She has two mothers. I am one of them.  I came into existence yesterday on formspring. No, she did not name me, she did not say anything at all that would make any connection between us — but she said she is adopted.

Since 2005 the message I received was “I am not adopted. I do not think about adoption therefore you cannot exist. In my world where adoption does not exist, there is no room for you. Thank you for understanding. Please go back out the way you came in.”

I am probably wrong to do so but I find this encouraging.

I exist.

6 Thoughts.

  1. i love your logic . . .

i think part of growing up is learning to accept who we are. it seems strange that any adopted person would not accept the fact of their adoption as being a part of who they are.

  2. I don’t think you are wrong Suz! I think it was a big step for her to put it out there that she is adopted…

  3. I’m so happy for you. I haven’t yet read everything about your daughter, does she have children yet? I guess I’m thinking that the experience of being pregnant and giving birth will make her think more about what you must have gone through handing off your beautiful breathing thing to someone else forever.
