Girls in Crisis

Someone I care a great deal about is in what some might call a downward spiral. She is a young girl, high school age, struggling with being, a high school girl.  I am attempting to help her and her family. Speaking as someone who has been there, done that, I see the writing on the proverbial wall. I was in her shoes once, crying out for help, for love, for attention and when all those efforts failed me, I experienced an unplanned teenage pregnancy (and found myself failing myself, my child and others even further).  I would like to steer this young lady away from my path.

I am looking for resources, recommendations, referrals for this friend and her family. I am particularly interested in organizations, books, therapies, professionals, etc. that help teenage girls in crisis. She isn’t pregnant (yet) but it is not out of the question. The young lady lives in New England area. I seem to be overflowing with resources POST unplanned pregnancy but lacking in resources to prevent it.

To respect her privacy I am limiting what I share here but if you have experienced similar, know of support organizations for teen girls in crisis, please do comment or send me a private email. You can write me at bluestokking at gmail dot com.

Thanks.

What about suggesting the Big Brother Big Sister program? They enroll up to the age of 18 for role-model mentorships: http://www.bbbs.org/site/c.9iILI3NGKhK6F/b.5968195/k.7035/Something_for_everyone.htm

Good suggestion Laura. One I had not thought of but should have. I have a very good friend who has been a big sister for years!
