We interrupt this blogging break to share an old television series episode you may be interested in watching.
In Treatment is (or was, technically) an HBO drama about psychologist Dr. Paul Weston, played by Gabriel Byrne. Each episode focuses on one patient and their particular life challenges. The series has received critical acclaim and numerous honors, including Emmy, Golden Globe and Writers Guild awards. The third (and possibly final) season premiered on October 26, 2010 and featured four patients, one of them a 16 yo gay adoptee that was found by his birthparents.
I don’t know how I missed this in the news (since I am technically a season behind in actual viewing) but I am glad I caught it now. I encourage others to view it (check it out on youtube, hulu, netflix, etc.). I don’t think you will be disappointed (although you may be a bit triggered). I found the scripting to be spot on yet then I wondered if it was a bit cliche. Could there be THAT much commonality in reunion experiences? Did the writers draw from the standard stuff to have the most appeal? Is someone on the team adopted and in reunion? Who did they consult for this material?
I have yet to finish watching the remainder of the season (I have it on DVD) so I am not sure how Jesse’ s story turns out. Don’t be a spoiler if you know!
