A little over two weeks ago Rich and I were married in Chicago. While I had instructed the few guests who attended not to bring presents (stating their presence was the best present ever), a few insisted. As such, I asked them to consider making a donation in our honor to A Young Mothers Dream. I am told they did. I am pleased.
Whilst in Chicago on a semi-honeymoon (yes, you can actually honeymoon in the Windy City), I received a surprise gift to our hotel room from a blog reader and online friend. I was shocked at the gesture. I have never even met this friend IRL and only know her from this blog and Facebook. She saw the wedding announcement on my Facebook page and where we were staying and sent a delicious edible gift.
Once we returned home, I was the happy recipient of even more gifts both from wedding guests (shame on you! you did not follow the rules!) and other friends. All very kind.
Since we are approaching our local family reception (to be held on 9/10/11) I feel the need to once again reiterate, while the thoughts are very much appreciated, we don’t want gifts. If you insist, feel as though you must make a celebratory gesture, please do as I asked of our elopement guests. Make a donation in our name to A Young Mothers Dream.
A Young Mothers D.R.E.A.M. is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Their mission is to “assist young/teen moms to complete their education through a one on one mentorship program. To motivate them to become more accomplished individuals. To instill determination, resilience and excellence as core characteristics for these mothers.”
You can donate via paypal and can find the link to do so on their home page.
Thank you all for your wedding wishes.
Life is good.
