Action is the antidote to despair. – Joan Baez
Excerpt from a letter I received in the mail yesterday…
On behalf of the Conference Committee of the upcoming AAC/ANC conference Transforming Families, Connecting Lives, we are delighted to inform you that your workshop proposal has been accepted and scheduled as follows:
Title: Nine Months: Gains and Losses
Date: Sunday, April 26, 2009
Time: 8:45 am – 10:00 am……”
I am pleased. But the truly coolest part of this is that my co-presenter on this topic is none other than Thirdmom.
Our current working abstract is:
“The session we propose will look at the critical time before and immediately after the birth and adoption of a child from the viewpoints of a surrendering mother and an adoptive mother. We will show how misinformation, misunderstanding, and lack of communication bring them to decisions on behalf of the child that they would, in any other situation, be unlikely to make. We also will provide suggestions for ways in which the professional adoption community can take advantage of this period of time to educate and empower both women to make truly informed decisions. We both speak from the perspective of closed adoptions, but will discuss issues related to open adoption as it is practiced in the US today.”
So looking forward to meeting many friends in Ohio as others have recently gotten their acceptances as well.
